Eric Silagy is the immediate past chairman, president and CEO of Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), a subsidiary of NextEra Energy, Inc., and the largest investor-owned electric utility in the nation. Governor Silagy worked for NextEra Energy companies for more than two decades. For FPL, he served as senior vice president of regulatory and state governmental affairs and as chief development officer, managing all generation development, including solar, natural gas and nuclear energy projects. At NextEra Energy Resources, Governor Silagy served as vice president and general manager of the Southern Region, and vice president of business development. Prior to joining NextEra Energy, Governor Silagy served as vice president of mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures at Entergy Wholesale Operations and as vice president and managing director for Southeast Asia for The Wing Group, a subsidiary of Western Resources. He also worked for U.S. Senator J. Bennett Johnston of Louisiana in several capacities, including chief of staff.
Governor Silagy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin, a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center and is a member of the Maryland and U.S. Supreme Court bars.
Governor Silagy was appointed to the Florida Board of Governors in 2019, confirmed by the Florida Senate in 2020 and served as vice-chair from 2022 to 2024. Governor Silagy also serves on the board of AEGIS Mutual Insurance Company and is a member of the Audit & Finance and Risk & Capital committees. He is also chairman of the Florida Council of 100, a past chairman of the Florida Chamber of Commerce and executive board member of Enterprise Florida. He serves on the Energy Security Leadership Council of Securing America’s Future Energy, a bi-partisan council of business and military leaders supporting a comprehensive, long-term policy to reduce U.S. oil dependence and improve energy security. Additionally, Governor Silagy serves as a board member of the Honda PGA tour event supporting Children’s Healthcare Charities.
