UF Health Shands Hospital was rated the third-best hospital in Florida Tuesday by the U.S. News & World Report.
Three specialties were also recognized, with the hospital ranking No. 25 in nephrology, No. 41 in cardiology and heart surgery and No. 47 in pulmonology.
The report analyzed around 5,000 hospitals nationwide to determine rankings in 16 medical specialties. Only 3 percent of these hospitals earned top 50 rankings in a specialty.
In addition, UF Health Shands Hospital also was listed as high-performing in eight other specialties: cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and urology.
The Florida hospitals that beat out UF Shands for the top spot were Florida Hospital Orlando and Tampa General Hospital.
