Gov. Rick Scott is expected to make up to six new appointments to the Florida Board of Governors, which will make the university governing board a body dominated by his nominees.
Four terms expired Monday -- those of Norman Tripp, Tico Perez, John Temple and Gus Stavros. Another two vacancies exist because Ava Parker and Joe Caruncho resigned with time left in their terms.
One person who will definitely be gone is Perez, a big time supporter of University of Central Florida, who served on the board for seven years.
"I did not reapply," Perez told the Sun-Sentinel. "Seven years is a long time. Jeb Bush brought me in.
It’s an extraordinary board."
According to the Herald/Times, the potential candidates include former state Rep. Fred Costello, R-Ormond Beach; son of Miami Dolphins owner Harry Wayne Huizenga Jr., and health care executive Alan Levine. Tripp has also reapplied for his board spot.
Board Chairman Dean Colson told the Sun-Sentinel by email that he heard the appointments were coming, but that he had not yet been told who is on the list.
