Items to watch for the upcoming Board of Governors’ meeting
Trustee Summit: Joined by Governor Rick Scott and more than 150 attendees from Florida’s 12 public universities, university leaders on Wednesday will hold the 2016 Trustee Summit, titled Effective Leadership: Building a Legacy of Excellence. Held annually, the agenda for this year’s Summit includes Reaching New Heights with Research and Shaping the Future of 2+2 Articulation. Wednesday: 8:15 am to 5:30 pm.
Legislative Budget Requests: Board members will consider a number of budget requests designed to meet specific needs, including nursing faculty recruitment and retention, and strategic cluster hires for research and renovations for laboratories and research infrastructure. The Budget and Finance Committee reviewed and prioritized these issues during the Board’s October 17 workshop. Committee: Budget and Finance.
Performance Funding: The Budget and Finance Committee will consider several changes to the Board’s Performance-Based Funding Model, including an enhanced Metric 3, replacing Cost Per Degree with Net Student Tuition Per Degree. The proposed changes follow a discussion during the Committee’s October 17 meeting about how best to promote affordability and timely graduation. Committee: Budget and Finance.
Mental Health and Security: Dr Maribeth Ehasz, UCF vice president of student development and enrollment services, will describe the importance of meeting mental health needs on campus. The presentation follows the Board of Governors’ approval in September of a legislative budget request for mental health and security funding. Academic and Student Affairs.
Presidential Confirmations: Board members will consider the appointments of Dr. Larry Robinson as interim president of Florida A&M University and Dr. Martha Saunders as president of University of West Florida. Full Board Meeting.
Think Florida: Disney recruiter John Sherry will co-present with University of Florida Career Resource Center Director Heather White. The feature is part of the Think Florida: A Higher Degree for Business campaign, designed to promote partnerships and build synergies between the State University System and the business community.
