State University System Chancellor Frank Brogan to Attend Future of Florida Forum Meeting in Orlando, Annual Gathering of Florida Business Leaders

State University System Chancellor Frank Brogan will join Education Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith at the 2010 Future of Florida Forum on Tuesday afternoon in Orlando. During the joint hour-long presentation, Chancellor Brogan will focus on the Board of Governors' New Florida Initiative and the grant awards announced to date amid the state's 11 public universities as part of the transformation of the state economy. The 2010 Legislature appropriated $12 million to the New Florida Initiative, for research-to-market commercialization and other scholarly projects in the state universities.
The first round of awards - the $2 million in commercialization awards - were announced Oct. 1.

The announcement of awards for the remaining $10 million of the 2010 New Florida Initiative funding from the Legislature will occur in early November.

Education Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith will join State University System Chancellor Frank Brogan at the 2010 Future of Florida Forum tomorrow in Orlando to discuss best practices in preparing Florida"s students for meaningful and productive careers. Commissioner Smith will also be on hand to accept a $150,000 donation from AT&T Foundation President Marshall Criser. The donation will be used to create professional development opportunities that will help Career and Technical Education teachers integrate academics into their coursework.
